Kris’ appeal: Aquino will need allies in the Senate

MANILA, Philippines—Television host Kris Aquino is making a strong, last-minute pitch for the Senate slate of the Liberal Party.

In an interview with a Baguio radio station, Aquino said that her brother, LP presidential candidate Benigno "Noynoy'' Aquino III, needed all the help he could get in Congress if he wins the presidential election.

Aquino said that with Senators Manuel Villar and Loren Legarda, the Nacionalista Party’s standard-bearers, expected to return to the Senate, her brother would need the help of LP senators to push for important laws.

"Please help my brother and elect his team for the Senate,'' Aquino appealed in the interview.

The LP's senatorial candidates are former Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ralph Recto, former Sen. Serge Osmeña, former Senate President Franklin Drilon, Akbayan Rep. Liza Hontiveros Baraquel, Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon, Bukidnon Rep. Teofisto Guingona, Sonia Roco, former Bukidnon Rep. Neric Acosta, resigned Army Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, Yasmin Lao, Martin Bautista, and Alex Lacson.

On Friday, Kris Aquino joined her brother's flame, Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad, in a motorcade in Valenzuela City before going to the miting de avance of the LP at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

When asked to comment on rumors of a split with Soledad, Aquino said: "Incorrect. We always talk.''

The LP standard-bearer is expected to spend the next two days in a relaxed mode at the family house in Tarlac.

"I think my sister will bring her two kids (Joshua and Baby James) and I’ll probably go swimming with them. I will also pray and go play some DVDs,'' said Aquino, who will vote in Tarlac.

Kris Aquino said: "If Noy and Mar win, Loren and Manny will go back to the Senate. We need more allies there. At this point, we only have four winners among the 12 and we need more LP senators in the winning circle."
