Kris Aquino Leaves Pilipinas Win Na Win

Kris Aquino called it quits on her show, Pilipinas Win Na Win. Kris Aquino announced today that she is leaving Pilipinas Win Na Win and that her final hosting chore will end on Friday, October 1, 2010. Kris Aquino said it is now the correct time to quit the show. On leaving Pilipinas Win Na Win, Kris Aquino said, “Friday is my last day on Win na Win. It was a good work & learning experience for me, but it’s time to go. Shooting some commercials in the next few wks but Dalaw script still going thru revisions so I’m gonna give myself some time to de-stress, de-compress & pray. Doing my version of Eat Pray Love, mine is Exercise Pray Heal.” Pilipinas Win Na Win has been moved to an earlier timeslot of

ABS-CBN names new 'Pilipinas, Win na Win' hosts

MANILA, Philippines – An official of ABS-CBN on Tuesday revealed a group of new hosts of “Pilipinas, Win na Win” following Kris Aquino’s announcement that she is leaving the network’s noontime program.

The "Hitmakers,” composed of Rico J. Puno, Rey Valera, Marco Sison and Nonoy Zuñiga, will join Pokwang and Valerie Concepcion on October 2, said Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN Corporate Communications, in an official statement.

Osorio confirmed that Aquino’s last day on the show is on October 1.

“Management has decided to try a combination of new hosts for the program…. The program continues to bring fun, games and hope to Filipinos around the world,” he said.

Aquino confirmed Tuesday that she is leaving "Pilipinas, Win na Win" just 2 months after its launch.

The Philippines' "Queen of All Media" said she did not resign or quit but was asked to leave the show.

Aquino, who is President Benigno Aquino's youngest sister, is the third Win na Win host to leave the show. Actor Robin Padilla and TV host Mariel Rodriguez also went on indefinite leave from the show to get married.

Kris Aquino: My marriage to James is over (transcript)

MANILA, Philippines - This is a transcript of Kris Aquino's interview on "The Buzz," Sunday (June 27), where she disclosed that she has given up on her marriage to basketball star James Yap.

BOY ABUNDA: Krissy, maraming tanong, maraming opinyon, speculations. This is your chance. We will listen. What do you have to say?

KRIS AQUINO: First, I'm sorry about Tuesday [engagement in Cebu]. For so long, ilang buwan naman na nagampanan ko ang lahat ng tungkulin ko, lahat ng responsibilidad sa trabaho at sa kampanya kahit na mayroon kaming pinagdadaanan sa tahanan namin. It was a sign of weakness on my part not to show up, and I'm sorry about that. I'm sorry that you had to be the one to answer because you felt uncomfortable making up an excuse.

About what we've been through, I think naman Boy hindi lahat sikreto sa inyong lahat, kung ano ang mga napagdaanan namin in our married life. I think also the whole Philippines is fully aware na when my mom was alive and ngayon, my siblings have tried to bridge whatever gaps -- and I mean gaps, marami na kasi.

I have not sat down [with my siblings]...lahat through text -- kay ate, kay Pinky. Through phone, nakausap ko si Viel. Nagtext din kami ni Noy. Siyempre sila lahat, gusto nila sana maayos pa.

I just want to say na whatever decision I have come to, it's not a spur of the moment decision. Matagal naming sinubukan. James and I both tried to really make this work.

On my part, what I'm comfortable saying is, with finality I can say, ako sumuko na.

But there's no way of doing that.

Last night, mga 4 in the morning, hindi ako makatulog pa. Katabi ko si Baby James, and I think he had a bad dream kasi he started to cry in his sleep. And that's when it came to me, and I'm sure lahat ng mga nanay maiintindihan ako. Kung anuman ang dahilan why this marriage, on my part I'm saying, is over, the only person I will owe and explanation to, and the only person who can demand from me na bakit kayo naghiwalay, is my son.

And kagabi Boy, narealize ko, the worst thing I can do for Baby James is, when he's 7 or 8 years old and mahanap niya sa YouTube yung explanation kung bakit naghiwalay ang nanay at tatay niya. He deserves much more than that. He deserves to hear it only from me and only from James. Because in any separation, there are 2 sides to the story. And we owe it to him, James will owe it to him, that I will owe it to him to explain to him.

But I'm sure you will all understand me. My decision to keep quiet is not because on June 30 magiging presidente si Noy. My decision to keep quiet is because I asked myself 'Kapag inexplain ko kay Baby James, number one mauunawaan ba niya ako? Number 2, rerespetuhin pa ba niya ako? At number 3, mamahalin pa ba niya ako?' At nasagot ko naman kagabi na 'yes.' I know my son will understand me, will respect me and still love me. And I feel that he will love me more, respect me more, and value me more if I keep quiet today.

I know that will leave so many unanswered questions, but those questions, only Baby James deserves to hear the answers to. Siguro Boy, this is part of growing up. It's part of realizing that yes, I am public and I owe all of you an explanation, but apart from God, the only one I'm answerable to is kung di man mga kapatid ko eh ang anak ko.

Because I'm doing this for my son, because he's only 3 years old and he really doesn't deserve na kung ano yung trials na pinagdaanan ng parents niya, kailangang ungkat-ungkatin at ulit-ulitin, wag na.

Kung this will mean na maraming hindi makakaintindi sa akin or sasabihin, ijujudge ako, then let it be. I don't mind. The world can judge me. I just want my son to be able to respect me and respect his father. Because at the end of the day, ang utang namin sa kanya. To a certain extent, of course, it will affect Josh but it's really Baby James who will really be affected.

And maybe, yung sinasabi ng mom ko sa akin parati na 'Krissy, love is bringing out the best in each other.' Maybe Baby James is really bringing out the best in me. And that's it, Boy. I really hope they understand that this is for my son.

BOY: Naiintindihan ko. Maraming salamat, Krissy.

"I asked him," say ni Kris, "I called, 'yun ang totoo, and I said, 'we owe you a lot because naglakas-loob kayo na last three weeks (of the campaign), the whole (Eat) Bulaga was in yellow. You made a stand. "I asked him pero ayaw niya," say ni Kris.

Kasi, singer siya, that also affects him, anti-piracy, 'di ba?" Kris said.

Ayon kay Jomari Yllana, he's not a bit affected nang mabalitaan niyang nagde-date na sina Sam Milby at Marie Digby.

Kris Aquino courts controversy again

Despite her vow to remain tightlipped for the sake of her brother Noynoy, our next President, Kris Aquino can't seem to shake off controversy.

The actress/TV host announced last Friday she is laying off Twitter for a while to avoid another hot issue from getting hotter.

It began when someone tweeted Kris, asking why she doesn't mention her husband James in her tweets. She said she replied to the tweet "with honesty. " She didn't elaborate but it's a broad hint that all is not well with her marriage - again.

"My attention was called by Noy about this," Kris wrote in her tweet. "So in the interest of keeping what is left of our privacy -- I will suspend being active on twitter. "

Noynoy has said he won't intervene in his sis' marital problems and would rather let Kris and James settle their differences.

But wait, there's more. Rumors were abuzz that Kris wasn't getting along with Junjun Binay, the son of Vice President-elect Jojo Binay. The rumors came at a time when Noynoy is trying to maintain cordial relations with Binay, who belongs to another political party. To head off another controversy, Kris and Junjun appeared on TV together, denying to high heavens that there's a rift between them.

Will Kris keep her promise and zip her lips? Stay tuned. * * *

The father-and-daughter team-up of Gabby Concepcion and KC Concepcion in I'll Be There holds up pretty well. Gabby tries just hard enough not to upstage KC. To her credit, KC does well on her own, portraying a character that's close to her heart.

I'll Be There follows the well-worn formula of a girl bitter at her father for leaving her when she needed him most. (Hmm. Sounds familiar. ) But the movie develops a charm of its own, thanks to fine performances from the lead stars and the firm hand of Director Maryo delos Reyes. At first KC appears to be tentative, not convincing enough as the girl out to pressure Gabby into giving her share of her mom's property. But she quickly redeems herself and gets in stride.

Jericho Rosales merits special mention as KC's love interest. * * *

Don't you wish you had Oprah Winfrey for a boss?

The media megastar has given each staffer in her magazine O, The Oprah Magazine, $10,000 plus an Apple iPad, "as a thank you for their hard work and dedication. "

The gifts were given out to commemorate the magazine's 10th anniversary.

Oprah herself got a gift of sorts when she was given her own star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood .

Also given stars by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce were 29 other celebs including Penelope Cruz, Gwyneth Paltrow, Donald Sutherland, Reese Witherspoon, Danny DeVito and Tina Fey. * * *

Rain ruined my visit to Universal Studios in Singapore last week. It was pouring so hard I was reminded of Typhoon Ondoy. I was looking forward to a tour of Universal because I had been told there were Filipinos working there.

The rain had also closed down the rides at Universal, so that was another damper. * * *

The following day, we were treated to lunch at a Japanese restaurant by Mr. Raymund Miranda, managing director of Asia Pacific Universal Networks International, which runs Universal Studios.

Raymund was a top executive at GMA-7 before he moved to Singapore five years ago.

A Filipino bigwig at Universal Studios! Now that's something to be proud of.

However, I missed the dinner hosted by Hanzel Villafuerte, a former talent manager and publicist in the Philippines. Nyoy Volante was one of his wards. Hanzel moved to Singapore in 2006. Guess what, Hanzel is now a chef at a French-Italian restaurant. He told my friends who savored his dinner that he's so happy in Singapore returning to the Philippines and reentering showbiz never entered his mind.

Kris & the changing times

THEN: Flashback on The New Media Superstar: Written for a magazine cover story March 30, 1986.

The house on Times Street was practically empty; it was the evening of Feb. 4, 1986, the miting de avance of Cory-Doy ticket at the Luneta. We were there to wait for Kris Aquino for a taped interview for See-True. At that time, I helped arrange the interview through the office of Ballsy Aquino-Cruz in the spirit of equal time. Inday Badiday told me that she would also be interviewing Imee Marcos-Manotoc.

As we sat waiting in front of the house, the maids brought us fruit juice and ensaymada. The gays in the group started flirting with the security guards.

"Baka 'pag nasa Malacañang na kayo hindi na kayo ganito kabait. "

Drivers passing the house on Times Street felt obliged to honk their horns in that familiar way and make the Laban sign, not minding really whether someone is looking or not.

Kris Aquino arrived with her mother and her entourage in a cream-colored van. She apologized for making us wait and asked breathlessly if she could change her shirt. She wore an Aquino yellow shirt.

"I'm sure you don't want me to wear this," and she hied off to her room for a quick change.

"I was the only one who wanted my mother to run in this election. Perhaps it is because I was very young when my father was in politics. So I like to try. But now with all these intrigues and what people are saying, ayaw ko na. No, I don't like to be in politics myself. "

When Kris was asked what her role would be if her mother won, she said:

"I will just be her daughter. I don't think I will have a specific role. It is my mother's policy that not one of us in her family will be involved in the government. "

The atmosphere then was showbiz, what with the giggly presence of Inday's entourage at the sala. Cory looked drawn that night; she was obviously tired from the week's rigorous campaign. But she gamely stayed in the sala talking with Tony Gonzales, Lupita Kashiwahara and some of Cory's Crusaders who stayed on. I managed to give her two news clippings a friend sent me from Paris that day. They were about Cory and her campaign.

Would Kris enter showbiz?

"Perhaps just one movie. That's all my mom will allow me. There were talks before with Regal but nothing came of it. No, not with Viva. Perhaps with Uncle Tony's Malaya Films," and she smiled at Tony Gonzales who was standing near the kitchen door.

Yes, she said, she likes Richard Gomez among the young stars and not Aga Muhlach, Although she is grateful to him for being at the miting de avance. She also likes Sharon Cuneta, in spite of her being with KBL; what she said drew some reactions from the kibitzers. The questions came rapid fire on different subjects. She answered them in the most natural way, giving us an inkling of how her mind works.

Did she eat galunggong?

"Galunggong?"

That's a kind of fish, someone commented.

"Kumakain ba ako niyan?" she asked one of the household help listening to the interview. The girl shook her head. It seemed she had never eaten the fish.

Galunggong came up in the interview because the price of this lowly fish was brought up as political issue by the Unido-Laban team in their campaign. The price has gone up five times during the Marcos years.

The taped interview was shown February 8 and Kris stole the show. That was the time showbiz intrigues were pushed in the background as the refreshing personality talked about issues of that time.

During the interview, Kris was 14 going on 15. She was to be 15 on Valentine's Day 1986.

She was asked how she would celebrate it.

"Kung manalo siguro may celebration. Pag hindi baka simple lang.

And of course it came to pass that after her massive cheating in the February 7 election, the people's revolution ensued. Minister Juan Ponce Enrile and General Fidel V. Ramos became the heroes of the Armed Forces of the Philippines of the People and Mrs. Corazon Aquino was installed as the people's President.

When Kris came to Channel 7 for the live interview on See-True, she was already the President's daughter. It was March 1, and People Power was in everybody's mind. Kris was hot property even without the vestige of political power, but it could not be denied that as the First Daughter she became more so.

Kris came with cousin Rina Teopaco and four military aides. She was now a sophisticated 15-year-old, with her hair done by Biba in the latest style, with a tint of purple sprayed on top.

"It is nice to be able to appear on television like this," she said smiling.

In that simple statement she reminded her listeners how TV was controlled in the past; and how the opposition was hardly given the time of day in any of the programs.

Members of the movie press elbowed one another for a place on the panel, so the staff of the show decided to get some stars on the panel instead. Those who campaigned for KBL were nervous about asking Kris questions.

"But that's all over now. My mom stressed reconciliation and we are all for that," she said.

Kris mentioned that she would like to do a dramatic movie with perhaps Lino Brocka as her director. And after that she would like to go into fashion design.

During this March 1 interview it was her talk with Senator Ted Kennedy, which she related, that gave people an insight into the mother-daughter relationship between Kris and the President.
