Abunda on 'despedida' issue: Give Kris a break

MANILA, Philippines - Talk show host Boy Abunda is appealing to Kris Aquino's Twitter and Facebook critics to give the actress-host a break.

"Let's give the girl a break, hindi pa nga siyanakaka-attend ng inaugural," Abunda said in a test message to ABS-CBN News.

Abunda and Kris were both in Boracay for a brief vacation.

The talk show host, who is also Kris's manager, said that the actress has refused to comment on her critics' "despedida campaign" because she wants every Filipino to be "magnanimous in victory."

"Sabi ni Kris, 'Ayaw kong makipag-away sa kanila,'" Abunda said quoting Kris.

The "Kris Aquino's Despedida" Facebook page's members have ballooned from Friday's 7,113 members to 15,332 members on Saturday.

The page was created after Kris's brother, Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, started pulling away from rivals in partial counts for the presidential race.

The person behind the "despedida" page said it was created "just for fun."

Work in a TFC office

Two months ago, Kris said she's ready to leave the country if her brother wins in the May 10 polls.

Kris said she'll continue her acting and hosting career abroad through ABS-CBN's The Filipino Channel (TFC) if it's what's best for her brother and the Philippines.

Currently, TFC has offices in Asia Pacific (Hong Kong and Singapore), Australia, Canada, Europe, Middle East and North America.

"Sinabi ko nga kay Noynoy, 'O Noy, kung makakasira ako sa'yo in case presidente ka na...mag-aabroad ako at magtratrabaho sa TFC office abroad.' (I told Noynoy, 'Noy, if I'll be a cause of stress for you, in case you become president...I'll go abroad and work in a TFC office)," she told ABS-CBN News.

"Mas mahirap ang posisyon ni Noynoy kasi may kapatid siya na kagaya ko (Noynoy's in a more difficult position now because he has a sister like me)," she jokingly added.

Aquino now has a lead of about 5 million votes, making him a few steps away from being proclaimed as the Philippines' next president.

He didn't accept his sister's offer, thinking that it was a joke.
